Today I joined police officers in Brighton on their weekly tour of businesses as part of policing's national Safer Business Action Week. I spoke to local retailers about the best way for them to report crimes, talked about the action being taken to address the prolific shoplifters and heard the police give welcome reassurance to staff that we do take business crime seriously in Sussex. I also explained how I have called for electronic tagging of our prolific shoplifters and support calls for 'abuse against shopworkers' to be made a standalone offence.
